URBAN style is a particular type of room DESIGN that is represented by the presence of very distinctive metropolitan and industrial atmospheres.

Furnishing rooms in urban style allows you to create trend, while maintaining a warm, colorful and cozy atmosphere.

It is a particularly sought-after and flexible style today, as it can be used in private residences, offices or stores and is suitable for both city environments and locations located outside metropolitan settings.

The urban style, tends to find its greatest expression in large and spacious environments where one can best be inspired by the principles of minimalism and essentiality and where the gaze of the person observing can wander freely everywhere, with painted walls and few furnishing elements.

Typical elements of urban furniture are:

  • old industrial lamps,
  • pipes to be used as furniture frames,
  • simple decorative wall paintings that evoke the outdoors,
  • old typewriters or sewing machines,
  • floor or ceiling paddle fans,
  • antique trunks or wall clocks,
  • unfinished metal shelving

It is good to remember that decoration should remain essential and with few elements, to avoid the feeling of excessive clutter

The most commonly used materials for the urban style include:

  • bricks or concrete for the walls,
  • exposed beams for the ceiling,
  • resin or concrete for floors.

This, unfortunately, very often also involves very complex and rather expensive work, and many times we give up if certain elements are not already present within our premises or we do not have major renovations planned.

How then to create a URBAN style without necessarily having to intervene with overly expensive or invasive work?

OXIDE – the URBAN decorative paint

The paradox that arises when talking about OXIDE is that for hundreds of years we have struggled to defeat rust, and now we do everything to be able to have it.

But the amazing thing about today is that we can induce oxidation of substrates and achieve wonderful decorative effects that are perfectly in line with the URBAN – CONTEMPORARY style.

OXIDE is a new version of decorative that can be used both internally and externally but especially on both wall and metal substrates.

Therefore, by decorating some walls and repainting old metal shelves that would become excellent furnishing accessories, we can quickly and without exaggerated costs, recreate our URBAN style in the rooms where we want it

And there’s more–by inducing oxidation on metal supports, we achieve a double effect:

  • We determine how important and strong its level of oxidation itself should be.
  • The substrate will be protected from subsequent oxidation, because the applied paint will act as protection

WHO IS OXIDE??

OXIDE is a coating based on acrylic resins and micaceous pigments of the finest choice, water-dilutable that can make any surface resemble rusted iron in an extremely realistic way to the touch and uneven appearance, the result is possible through chemical oxidation of the paint.

It is composed of an “OXIDE” base and an oxidizing solution. It is possible to obtain various rust effects, more or less homogeneous, more or less obvious, depending on the application, the mode of application of the number of passes, the amount of solution deposited on “OXIDE” by the tool, the oxidizing solution.

To reduce the natural chalking of the oxidized surface, we can apply a coat of NUBILAC TRANSPARENT LUCIDO by brush, within 24 hours, so the surface will be protected.

HOW TO PREPARE SURFACES TO BE DECORATED WITH OXIDE?

  • New surfaces:

Prepare the substrate according to common application rules. Clean and sand the walls, removing all friable parts, apply a coat of ACRILSOL acrylic fixative to even out absorption.

  • Old surfaces:

Remove all flaking parts, putty, after which sand and apply a coat of our acrylic fixative ACRILSOL. In the case of old or flaking surfaces, apply a coat of our acrylic consolidating fixative H95 IMPRIMITURA.

  • Metal surfaces:

In the case of iron, aluminum, light alloy, galvanized substrates, clean the substrate well, remove any traces of dirt, oil, etc., and apply directly.

HOW TO APPLY OXIDE?

Once the wall has been prepared, apply “OXIDE” diluted 20-30% with a brush, making sure to cross brush strokes. When dry (about 4 hours) stroke the wall with the dry brush, and then proceed to apply the second coat in the same way.

Once the second coat has dried, again stroke the wall with the dry brush and begin the oxidizing solution with a marine sponge or pad, allow to dry, and after at least two hours proceed with the second coat of oxidizing solution.

After about 24 hours you will begin to see the first signs of oxidation.

Remember that in order to keep the surface protected over time, it is recommended that, within 24 hours, a coat of our water-based NUBILAC TRANSPARENT LUCIDO varnish be applied by brush.
